A fine glass of wine is always a pleasure when you’re ready to kick back, relax and savor the fact that you are living on one of the most beautiful islands in the world.
Hawaii gives us so much to enjoy — the ocean, warm trades, lush scenery, the sweet scent of tropical flowers and you might be surprised to know that it is also home to a climate where certain grapes can thrive and wine can be made.
If you ever visit the island of Maui, don’t miss the trip upcountry to Tedeschi Vineyards. The drive is absolutely breathtaking and by the time you get there you’ll be ready for a refreshment. They have a variety of wines that are available at your local island grocery or liquor store. Their biggest seller is “Maui Splash” made from liliko‘i and pineapple. So yummy!
The Volcano Winery on the Big Island of Hawaii also provides us with a unique selection of wines made from fruits such as yellow guava and lychee. One of their signature wines is made from 100% Macadamia Nut Honey!
If you are still unable to find exactly what you’re looking for, try making your own homemade organic wine, using recycled wine bottles, organic local fruit, yeast and filtered water. For easy-to-follow instructions on how to create your own wine, check out this groovy online video.
Cheers and Happy Pau Hana!
